I just turn off the screen and leave it over night.
I'm kinda lax that way, I remember letting Gran Turismo on the PS1 and GTA on the PS2 run for weeks until I could get a memory card.
Good ol' days of overpriced, proprietary storage solutions. Until the days of knock-off cards of course.
