But they didn't use someone of any ethnicity. They used someone who, with some important historical context, looks like people that did some pretty nasty things while claiming to have superior genes. At a time, no less, when the USA is being accused of being captured by fascist and Nazi powers.
Whether they meant it or not, that's not a great look. That's why it's tone-deaf, at best, and a Nazi dog whistle at worst. But that's kind of the rub about dog whistles, eh?
I saw the ad, and I must say, this is the dumbest shit ever. Everyone who's talking about this is fucking stupid. It's a complete nothingburger, and likely a completely intentional viral marketing campaign.
Talking about this dumb af nothingburger only benefits fascism.
TRUMP KILLED EPSTEIN AND RAPES CHILDREN! SHOW US THE FILES!
I just watched it, 100% agree it's marketing.
PS Sweeney looks like a sexy Bassett hound.
It’s a distraction. The response is a distraction. They want you angry about Sydney Sweeney so their base can be angry about you being angry about Sydney Sweeney so we all forget about Epstein.
(And also so they get free publicity for their brand.)
It’s just a dumb commercial. Ignore it.
People can be upset about more than one thing at a time.
Sure they can. No doubt. But this one isn’t worth being upset about. Especially since being upset about it only benefits American Eagle. I can’t remember the last time I thought about that brand. Now it’s all over headlines. Controversy gets attention.
It also distracts the MAGA sheep from what’s important. Now they can forget about the uncomfortable cognitive dissonance re: Epstein and get back to the very comfortable “mocking leftists for overreacting.”
Just ignore it. It’s manufactured outrage.
