Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

This has got to be a new low. Am I reading a new The Onion-like article? What the fuck even is going on?!

[–] arin@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

The onion wouldn't even publish this as satire because it would normally be slander.... Normally..... ....... .... Fuck this timeline

It is a mixture of two things:

  1. The vast majority of republican politicians aren't idiots (rank and file republicans on the other hand...). They know that trump only benefits trump. They remember the last few elections. And they know trump stabs EVERYONE in the back eventually. So when he calls for a favor or tries to appoint them to something they don't return his calls or make up excuses. So it is really just the dumbest of the dumb and the evilest of the evil in his rolodex who he can call on (see: HH Helmseley of the WWE...)
  2. He knows the epstein shit isn't going to go away so now he is normalizing sexual assault among his base.

Trump Admin Halts Lawsuits Targeting Civil Rights Abuses in Prisons, Group Homes

Group homes for foster children are how many, if not most, children in the US end up trafficked. They are hellholes and when the older man shows up with money and a place to sleep, children take the offer.

They want children to be trafficked.

He knows the epstein shit isn’t going to go away so now he is normalizing sexual assault among his base.

Huh... You'd think he wouldn't have to convince his base again after the Access Hollywood tape.

The thing to understand is that people are deeply and willfully ignorant. The vast majority of people today have no idea that "grab them by the pussy" was even a thing.

And you can see that in so many discussions online. How often does someone actually answer a question or explain what that something happened and get told to "touch grass"? And while that is a global phenomenon, it is also something that very much came out of right wing politics. Think about how many "kid sitcoms" basically depict the nerd or teacher as a loser because they know facts but the protagonist knows Street Smarts. And how many end up negating even that because the protagonist knows one factoid and the "smart person" breaks down because they were wrong once?

The "problem" is that "the epstein files" have been the rallying cry of the alt-right for well over a decade. So they actually WERE aware of this even if they were completely in the dark on trump's long history of being associated with epstein.

I was at the gym yesterday running on the treadmill. I usually avoid the ones that are in front of one of the TVs that have Fox News on (there's a bunch of TVs in front of the treadmills). Fox News was talking about some fight that happened in Ohio somewhere. They were talking about of for seriously 25 minutes and then they covered the nuclear submarine thing. No mention of jobs report and subsequent firing of the BLS person. The fight in Ohio was the focus because there were blacks and whites involved.
