Hi, we want to go for a longer wild camping trip in Southern/Western Sweden this August/September. We plan on camping out in the nature, at lakes or in woods. We are aware that there are some proper shelters but would like to not use them for more flexibility.

We are unsure whether we need to be worried about hunters in Sweden, especially in the woods. We read that hunting season starts in August and that hunting is quite prevalent.

In Germany, hunting accidents are not uncommon, especially because they are not expecting someone to walk or sleep in the woods.

Some questions:

  • Should we worry about this?
  • Should we check before pitching tent that we are not in a hunting area (how would we find out?)
  • Is hunting common in the woods?
  • Is hunting only allowed on private estates or on public land as well?
  • What can we do to minimize the risk?

Yeah, we are planning on cycling around (mainly on proper tracks, nothing super remote) and then picking a spot to sleep for the night (or two if we are doing a rest day).

Looks like we will probably just attach something orange to our tent.
