In Illinois, it's pronounced "mm,corn" and used in a gruff but familiar manner in lieu of say, discussing the weather rhetorically. Instead of, out of the blue, "mm,brisk", or "mm,hmm", "mm,rainsdue"; this would suffice to imply "I'm new in town and have learned your ways, but let's not get too friendly". ๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿผ
