Notice how diversity is a positive in literally every other species?

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

For a species? Definitely. For an individual? Not necessarily, in many cases not at all.

[–] Asswardbackaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Nonsense. Being born with anywhere between 1 and 80 fingers would be a huge benefit /s

No, but I do see how literally every other species has some pretty harshly enforced, if you know what I mean, ways that 'weak' members of said species doesn't pass on their genes.

No, elon is all about some idiotic eugenics shit. I simply acknowledge that the majority of a species' mutants lie dead and forgotten, their genes unrelayed down the genetic tree.

Sounds like you don't know very much about ecology. Outliers are very often punished in nature.

Makes me think of hyenas. I need to learn more about them. Been obsessed with animals all my life and just learned they're not canines, and their closest relatives are meerkats and weasels.

i dont mind diversity much if it doesnt pull down the average talents of a species, which it (always?) does.

diversity in cowmilk output (lol) in cows for a farmer isnt something desirable, atleast one area i know something about.

please write an example, why you thought of the comment? thx :). im sincerely interested

Surely you've noticed that this only applies to a population that is being exploited as a resource and prioritizes a specific trait or traits that are desirable to the exploiter rather than traits that contribute to the organism's well-being. That's what eugenics is, and what you are advocating for. It is not better for humanity or even for the individual to eradicate autism, it is better for our exploiters.

Diversity in ant behavior directly benefits their "front line". More scouts/backup depending on how timid or aggressive they are.
