Is he using the word removedrdly to slowly ramp up to the n-word? That only works on people who don't know the words only kinda sound alike but are otherwise unrelated...

Yes he is, except not slowly. Which is why choosing to use miserly or cheap or tight-fisted or mean, and keep those syllables out of our mouths and ears, is preferable. Choosing to use it, when there are so many alternatives, carries a certain aspect of, "You're not wrong, you're just an asshole."
