I’m pretty sure they’re using “survivor” here to mean “was a victim of”… but it’s sad and scary that I’m not positive I didn’t just miss the news that they were murdering people on the island too.
Edit: folks, I am aware that survivor is an appropriate word to use here.
"rape survivor" is generally the preferred nomenclature, rather than "rape victim".
