I see this all the time on the road and I just don't get it. People would rather tailgate me for miles than change lanes and go around. Someone please explain why people are like this.

Meanwhile I'm changing lanes the the very moment I see a car going slower in front of me. One thing I absolutely hate is having to turn off the cruise control once it's on, and I use it everywhere, even on city streets (I drive a sports car so it's easy to accidentally speed if I don't).

Edit: I don't understand these downvotes. What's wrong with using the passing lane to pass? Why am I the asshole because someone is afraid to change lanes? I already drive 15 MPH over the speed limit, and always stick to the right when I'm not passing (even though no one else in my city does this). So if you're tailgating when I'm already doing my best to be more courteous than the average person in the road, that makes me the dick?

Someone please explain why this comment is triggering so many people. I really don't get it.

you have no idea how much of a-hole you sound right here. do you drive a white bmw by any chance?? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Huh? How does changing lanes to pass someone make me an asshole? That's what passing lanes are for! Please explain. I don't understand these downvotes.

And no I don't drive a BMW. I think they're ugly, especially in a boring color like white (except for the Z series, and even those still have the ugly BMW grille).

No. I prefer Asian vehicles. I drive a 350Z Roadster Touring 6MT w/the DE engine in Daytona Blue.

I'm not sure I understood you. Do you pass people on the faster lane, or on their blind-spot slower lane? Do you pass people already driving the speed limit? Do you give slower drivers the chance to switch to the slower lane before you go around them? and nothing personal man it's all cool lol

Maybe I'm not explaining myself well enough:

I drive 15 MPH over the speed limit in the right lane, so that people don't tailgate me (but as I've pointed out, they still do anyway). I pass on the left, unless they're illegally blocking the passing lane, doing the speed limit. In which case I have no choice but to pass on the right. I give people a chance to switch lanes but they rarely do. People like to just pick a random lane and drive one speed in it the entire time, completely unaware of their surroundings. Except when they don't.

Maybe you live in an area where drivers are consistent and courteous, but I don't. Drivers are all over the place, which is why I have to be adaptable. Everything is made up and the rules don't matter where I live.

Ok ok I think you're alright. Your first comment was like "I never slow down nor switch my cruise control even in the inner city and just overtake around people instead because I drive a sport car..." lmao

I didn't say that I "never slow down". I was just pointing out that it's irritating having to slow down and speed up all the time. I rather just change lanes so I can maintain my speed.

The point I'm making is that I don't understand why people like OP would rather take the wrong exit than simply change lanes to get to where they need to be. If you're afraid to change lanes, then your mirrors are probably set incorrectly. It also couldn't hurt to buy blind spot mirrors if your car doesn't have them (or at least blind spot monitors). They're only about $3.

And if you're still afraid, then you shouldn't be driving at all. Scared drivers are dangerous drivers.
