"Transportation using lightweight vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, especially electric ones that may be borrowed as part of a self-service rental program in which people rent vehicles for short-term use within a town or city.

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.

No mention of range, which could be the deal-breaker.

If you're getting decent range, then 15-minute charging really isn't wanted/needed.

This might be good for people who do food delivery, but the bike itself isn't designed to be used like that...

They probably don't mention range because it's not possible to know, particularly with bleeding edge battery tech, without a pre-production run and testing. Although I wouldn't expect it to be shorter than typical ebike distance. Solid-state batteries promise really good energy density. Also short range at a $3k price tag would be a very hard sell.

Fast charging would be useful in touring and bikepacking; a lunch stop becomes a fresh battery. Already the one-wheel community run rides where they adapt car chargers to outlets mid-ride for their group's one-wheels.

I agree, but THIS bike is not it! It doesn't even have fork mounts or rack mounts from what I can see. Who is this bike actually for?

This bike doesn't exist yet. The pictures are renders and for marketing, like this article. Heck, maybe that's why there's a press release. They're getting public feedback without locking in specific design details.

Given they have Gary Fisher onboard, I'd be very surprised if they launch without any method to mount accessories.

But they are talking money now! LOL

Given they have Gary Fisher onboard, I’d be very surprised if they launch without any method to mount accessories.

Gary is the only reason why this bike is making headlines. The charging thing isn't really a pull if the rest of the bike has no mass appeal.

I completely agree. A fool and their money are soon parted. :)

The bike is also just 13kg, you can switch the assist to the lowest and just treat it as a normal bike.

Edit: also the battery is 350wh, assuming the rider ride it in a way that the motor consuming averaging around 150w and around 25kmph, that would likely net you around 50km, or even more, depend on the assist level.

I'd love to see a breakdown of the weight of the motor, battery, and frame on its own. Many carbon-framed bikes are around 20 pounds, so the fact that this one is only 10 pounds more and still has to account for everything else makes me very suspicious as to where corners were cut and if the specs are actually true.

Yeah, for now we can only work on assumption, and i doubt the weight could be kept under just that for a 350wh battery. But realistically it would still be under 15kg if they use light weight mid drive
