Looks like it might be 9 full slices of bread. Maybe he didn’t want to miss the exact spot.

This is a technique called tiling. It allows for incremental and parallel loading of the bread as well as resizing and easier reuse of the bread if it is scrolled or a part of it is needed again.

Small pieces don't make you as fat. And since they don't make you as fat you can eat more of them!
