Felony charges for a middle school student on, what I imagine is, a first offense seems a bit ridiculous, but an example should be made of them.
Why, exactly, should an example be made?
What is the purpose of an example being made in the first place?
Usually, one would make an example of people who caused some harm so that nobody else does the same harm.
What harm was done here? Or, if you prefer: why, exactly, should an example be made here?
