Movie review

The Defiant Ones with Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier

It's been a very long time since I last watched this Stanley Kramer movie ( I recommend all Kramer movies ) .

I grew up watching post wwii social justice movies, now this comes across to me as a bit too simplistic and maybe we don't need such story telling about racism and bigotry any more

but then maga and russia and palestine, so maybe we need it just as much as we ever did

it's that realism style, few beautiful landscape shots, just people against a gritty background, the beauty is in the developing relationship between the two main characters

tv review

Justice on Trial. J Judith Sheindlin re-enacts and editorialises some famous and some not so famous court cases that question the morality of the justice system.

Not a bad show if you like that sort of thing.

I should watch the Defiant Ones. I haven’t seen that one. I watched The Deer Hunter yesterday for the second time. It won 5 academy awards and I can’t figure out why., maybe the US was still grappling with the aftermath of the war in Vietnam and the story touched that nerve. But my god it’s WAY too long. The wedding scene alone is almost an hour long .

I think it became famous because of the russian roulette scenes, no other reason
