Biofuels are the least efficient conversion of solar energy imaginable, and only exist to subsidize farmers and the industry around them as a way to bypass international trade agreements that ban such subsidies.

I say this as a farmer. I benefit from this system on the price of oilseed, and I think it's a bullshit way to do things.
