They jumped onto a base and sabotaged a piece of military equipment, of course they had to ban them.
Spray painting a few planes is an EXTREMELY measured response to your government participating in a genocide IMO.
The government response is eerily similar to how the IDF reacts to anything resembling resistance in Palestine when it comes to proportionality.
They didn't "have" to do anything; both the ban and the UK's continued participation in the genocide are active unforced choices the government made. In the first place a law making "I support X" a crime has no place in a free country, no matter what X is. Yes, even the really bad thing you just thought of right now. Using such a law to crack down on anti-genocide dissent is nothing short of tyranny.
That was, in hindsight, not a wise thing to do I think. Definitely gave the UK government an excuse to do something they wanted to do anyway.
By that logic, the wisest thing to do is stay home and write strongly worded letters...which will accomplish absolutely nothing.
If you want to affect any sort of real change, it's often the case that things get worse before they get better; some sacrifices have to be made.
But it also got people really mad about it, so there's a trade-off there. Whether it's worth it I have no idea, but there is a logic to it.
