Akchuawly that is not the gay pride flag but the universal general use pride flag. Gay men and Lesbian each have their own.
Afaik that only changed relatively recently when the other flags were accepted to the collection. Many of us grew up going to Pride with the rainbow flag as the only 'gay' flag.
Yeah, I think the earliest instance of the blue toned gay men’s pride flag is like the 2010s? I know I didn’t see it before then, and I mostly associate it with tumblr and twitter.
