Related, surely. But I know we were using those same methods in my band way back when, inspired merely by their music. And CAN who used a similar concept (though it has to be added that Holger Czukay did a lot of magic in post-production).

The theorising came later.

I never liked the label (I'm German), esp. wrt CAN. I guess many late 60s - 70s bands had a certain flair, a certain Germanness maybe, but overall it was way too diverse to make it a genre.

To convince you, here are two songs:

The first one reminds me of Pink Floyd, the second reminds me of post-punk. I see your point, the Krautrock label is lazy.
