If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. If you end up with the beta max of battery tech hopefully there will be a retrofit of the popular tech by the time you actually need a replacement, which might be 20 years later, assuming the rest of the vehicle is still in good enough shape to warrant the replacement.
