COBRA means you are paying full price. Here our cheapest family COBRA plan is nearly 3K a month. Individual is $1100 a month. No idea what her cost would be just to keep what she has through COBRA. Her net worth doesn't tell you anything about how much she has in liquid funds. It could all be tied up in property, the market, or a trust that only gives her an allowance to live on. She also has an autoimmune disease and fibroids, which can require surgical removal. Yeah, she's in a way better financial position than the average person, but she needs the insurance too. If she can get it cheaper by being employed, why shouldn't she do that? Should she be forced to blow through her earnings to the point of being destitute just to get health care? No, and none of us should. Should being tied to a job be required to have health insurance, No, none of us should have to go through that. It's indentured servitude with extra steps.
