I think what's more likely to have happened is that Pochita has gained sufficient faith in Yoru to give her (figurative) gun back. Her initial goal was to force this to happen, but she has become increasingly resistant to the idea while simultaneously growing an actual affection for Denji (and for Pochi by extension).

Plus, just because Makima explained his powers to us doesn't mean that she actually knew everything about them. She was just his biggest super-fan and had a very obvious god complex, which makes it make sense that she would be overconfident about her knowledge of this topic that almost nobody else knows about. It kind of seems like only Pochita, if even him, actually knows how his erasure power works, or even how to reverse them.

It's also possible that she was totally correct about his power, but failed to realize that things which were erased from the past can still be rediscovered again. As a commentary on the nature of propaganda/control, I think this could fit the overarching narrative quite nicely.

My third and final theory on the matter is...a bit more silly. More of a reach too, I think. When we eat things, we eventually expel them, right? Could just be that nukes were gone for long enough that it is now their time to kiss the porcelain throne.

Here's my dumb theory. Pochita never ate it. Removing Nuclear Bombs from People's memory was other devil's work. So, they can hide the fact they have it. Because they probably used it before and it was devastating. That's why she said Why did I remember this? Because the devils are not affected by that other devil's power. I know I am wrong on many scales. sorry

This is good cookin, dude. The Forgotten Devil (or something like that) could definitely be the actual perp here.

Piggybacking on your idea; it could even be another one of Makima's many contracts that was made in anticipation of her possible death. Iirc her goal was split between making senpai (pochita) notice her and emulating him by saving humanity, so if she was sincere about that second one it would make sense for her to have a failsafe on the board just incase she died. And if she knew Yoru was an enemy to humankind, she would want to keep her biggest weapon as far away as possible for as long as possible, right? It would also make an interestingly artful juxtaposition between Denji's relationship with her and his with Asa and Yoru. Now that Yoru seems to be (kind of) cleansed of her hatred and evil, she is aided by her sister who was also ultimately redeemed by Denji's earnest love (only after being reincarnated, but still). It would be poetic in a big way.

But ofc this leads to the question 'why would she hide this from Denji and Pochita'? No clue lol. She's a true blue sneak though and the current lack of a living Control Devil makes me wonder how her next reincarnation enters the picture. It could be, in part, to explain/reveal something we weren't let in on during her initial arcs.

And I'm wrong about things all the time. Pretty confident I've said at least a couple dumb things itt lol. It's all good, dude. No one's counting.

I want this to be true
