I never understood why the man’s age is important? Are we expected to be more forgiving of older pedos than younger ones? If he’s 18, 25, 35, non of those make it right. 14y is 14y end of story.
ETA: not sure where the downvotes are coming from, it looks like people think the age gap is more important than the fact that the girl is a minor. Or people think that I’m condoning this behaviour? Either way, I’m saying Pedo is pedo, doesn’t matter if the man is 18 or 88. And I’m saying man not boy. Different jurisdictions have different rules on how minors can interact with each other, this is not about that.
Also, I think is it’s telling for our patriarchy that the male age is seen as a factor. I would have hoped that by now we would see it more (or at least also) from the victim’s perspective.
One of my first truly disappointing days on Lemmy. I’ll just stay here to get the orange out, and then I’m out too.
it's a massive age difference, and the people he's oogling were barely into their teens. what could a 45 year old possibly see in a 14 year old?
Oh, so in your view (not judging, just trying to understand the mysterious downvotes) the age gap is more incriminating that the fact that he was (at whatever adult age) sexually preying on a minor?
It's not a matter of more incriminating. Both of those aspects of the action are 100%, maximum incriminating. Robbing a convenience store is bad, doing so with a gun is worse and indicates more intent. It's a bit like that.
Having a gun isn't the problem. It's not incriminating to have a gun. Robbing a store is never okay, but it's made so much worse by the fact that you did it with a gun.
An 18-year-old oggling a 14-year-old is inappropriate and concerning but not unnatural or indicative of serious psychological issues.
Just a few months later and it becomes worrisome. Each additional year is more damning. I don't think that's an unusual perspective to take on the situation.
Ok, thanks, that’s the first proper explanation I’m seeing for this, but we’re all agreed that even if the 18 year old is ogling he should know better and really shouldn’t pursue.
Overall, with the trump epstein story and the amount of evidence already on the public record, I found it pointless to mention his age, as he was clearly a grown ass man when he made a bunch of these comments and actions. Some of them were with his minor daughter sitting right next to him.
