Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

If people keep expecting Dem candidates to be 100% pure in their viewpoints then we will be stuck with MAGA again and again.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Newsom is a neo-feudalist asshat who tried to lick fascist boots earlier this very year. If a corprocrat like him is chosen, Dems are cooked because voters have consistently not turned out for them recently. If such a flakey and uninspiring candidate is chosen, MAGA has a better chance due to base suppression. It doesn't matter that you think voters should act differently, because what is =/= what "ought" to be.

I'm tired of people expecting voters to shape themselves to the party instead of the other way around. Trump didn't dominate other Republicans by telling people to "be better," but by agreeing to satiate their strongest emotions. People aren't in the mood to hear "it can't be done yet, be patient," when everyone's economic situation has gotten worse with every passing year regardless of who is in charge. Democrats have nothing but false promises, which is why they lost against the American Hitler.

Also, his ex wife was a Fox News girl and Don Jr.’s ex gf so he’s in the same club as the rest of them.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (2 children)

He's also Nancy Pelosi's nephew.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Now that explains a lot

[–] DougHolland@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Newsom’s aunt was married to Nancy Pelosi’s brother-in-law until they divorced, almost 50 years ago. This wouldn't make him her nephew, even before the divorce, and there are more pertinent reasons to abhor both Pelosi and Newsom.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

No doug. Pelosi was an aunt by marriage until a divorce happened. You can read up on it here. https://calmatters.org/commentary/2019/01/gavin-newsoms-keeping-it-all-in-the-family/

Hear! Hear!

We should put TotallynitJessica in the campaign! Reminds me of this quote.

"Some party hack decreed that the people had lost the government's confidence and could only regain it with redoubled effort. If that is the case, would it not be be simpler, If the government simply dissolved the people And elected another?" -- Bertolt Brecht

It is 2025, and we are talking about an election that is happening in 2028. The primary isn't even on most people's radar. If we can't criticize candidates now, precisely when is it appropriate to level criticism at politicians?????

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Never, the answer is never. Never criticize, just bend over and take it just like the Republicans do. No choice, no voice, shut up and support the politicians who support the billionaire class.

Source: I have been seeing this same song and dance for 25 fucking years.

You know why Republicans get support? Because they at least lie and say they are supporting common people. Democrats give us this wishy washy bullshit of "well we did studies and we can't really make that happen" and fucking nobody wants to endlessly be told "no, we can't" by a bunch of policy wonk nerds.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Depends. If they're progressive, we can lob bigoted attacks at them after the primaries are over like Gilibrand and Jeffries did to Mamdani. If they're centrist, a couple weeks before the Big Bang is too close to the election.

[–] DougHolland@lemmy.world 19 points 8 months ago (2 children)

"Vote blue no matter who" got us Donald Trump, and a Democratic Party that barely makes a shadow effort to oppose him. I for one am finished with that.

I'm not done with it. Mamdani won the primary in New York. People like Hakeem Jeffries need to pull their damn britches up and vote blue no matter who, amirite?

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago

He's miles above the average Democrat if you really look into all the details, the Republicans are masters of personal attacks and talking points that poison the discussion vs. Address any part of reality. Be careful not to fall for it. Granted like Obama he's a careful centrist with no real desire to move the needle one direction or the other and that's been the problem this whole time it's establishment Dems want to play both sides and it stopped working after Trump's cult. So. He's not the answer to the problems Harris had, he's likely to put his foot in the same trap and he's by no means a liberal or populist, but he his a very strong debtor and a successful Gov if you look into it factually.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 14 points 8 months ago

What a farce. People don't want diet Republican candidates which is why the Republicans control every branch of government. The DNC would rather hand over control than allow a progressive to hold office.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Now's the fucking time to criticize Dem candidates, before and then during the Dem primaries. Our options going forward aren't "Newsom or a fucking Republican" yet, so don't fucking resign yourself - and all of us by extension - to fucking Newsom.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

This exactly. Choose your preferred candidate during the primaries. Then hopefully have a tolerable choice on the November ballot.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

centrists, always giving away every negotiation before it even starts. I imagine back on the schoolyard you'd chase bullies down and demand they took your milk money.

Your leaders are failing you, Dan. Gavin's got a pack of rabid dogs he wouldn't mind much feeding you to.
