Barcelona are facing another summer of salary limit struggles, with their latest ‘economic lever’ unlikely to be available to them before the end of the summer transfer window. The reason being the delays in work on Camp Nou, which are already eight months behind schedule.

In January, Barcelona ratified the lease of 475 VIP seats for the next 30 years to Fort Advisors and New Era Visionary Group. The deal brought in €100m to their accounts, and put the club back within their La Liga salary limit, allowing them to register players using 100% of the money they save or earn. However in March, auditors Crowe removed the income from their balance sheet as the product does not yet exist, and as such, from their salary limit.

I find it shameful that Barcelona now regularly resort to hounding out players to free up wage cap to get new shiny players in. Ter Stegen is the most recent example in this trend. You have to keep in mind that he's the current longest serving player of the squad, a former captain and he agreed to extend his contract to reduce yearly wages by stretching them over a longer timeframe. Now the club are telling him he's their number three goalkeeper.

Honestly, I hope Barcelona are stuck with ter Stegen until his contract expires in 2028 just out of spite at this point.

Yeah, it's definitely a bad situation. On the other hand, Barcelona and Real don't have the oil / foreign investors money that PSG, Manchester City, Chelsea can use.

Araujo was a captain for the last season, his errors costing the Champions League finals definitely tainted his image.

I don't think nation states and oligarchs taking over various football adjacent businesses is relevant in this question. In any business environment there will inevitably be some type of unfair competition. You still need to keep your finances on a solid footing and plan ahead accordingly. If you can't afford to pay for a given contract, don't sign it. If you feel the need to get financial backing from dubious sources I would advise Barcelona to start discussions with the PIF. I'm sure the Saudis would gladly drop Newcastle if they can pick up Barcelona instead.

I guess I just prefer to avoid actively hoping for another club's desmise (even Real Madrid) out of spite, but that's me
