What if ...... they are just no longer backing-up him up in how he runs the country? They can't say "we were wrong, he's not doing the job we said/trusted he would do". And this would be a perfect alternative excuse to get rid of him......
I think it's more "rats leaving a sinking ship" than "three parallel dimensions ahead"
