I have found myself in a Reddit disagreement where I cannot at all follow the logic of the other parties. I expect they would say the same about what I am saying. It feels a bit like trying to debate a flat earther, there appears to be some sort of fundamental disagreement about the rules of the universe. It makes my brain hurt.

There's a lot to be said for simply dropping your side of the conversation in that situation.

There is. It can end up like poking a loose tooth though, you just can't stop yourself. It feels like you are so close to understanding that just one more snippet of information will bring illumination, but it just keeps failing to happen.
