Not just the GOP. Yes, the GOP is a shining example, but it's more widespread than that.
Conservatism involves having a power fantasy. You know what else is a power fantasy? Pedophilia. When you're rich and can already dominate people financially and that's not enough, what else but to dominate them physically?
