Oh it's worse than that. They simply don't know who has them and who doesn't. I know this because the house I bought 3 years ago and gut renovated had lead pipes and most likely had lead service lines from the main. We called several people to determine if the service lines were lead or if they had been replaced as part of one of the city programs. One of the guys on the phone said "What, you gotta problem with lead pipes? I grew up with lead pipes, you think you're better than me?" I can't make this shit up, guy was gatekeeping lead pipes. But long story short, we never found out and are just assuming they are lead 🤷

Hope you got a water treatment system for the house that can remove lead.

That's exactly what we ended up doing. We have a rather large filtration system for the whole house.
