I'm not an expert but I don't think it would work like that, otherwise surely it would be unsafe to eat microwaved food.

Correct. Microwaves don't turn things radioactive. They blast the space with waves that heat water and that's pretty much it.

That said, cancer among young people does seem to be rising in many places.

But I don't think most young people microwave their underwear, so hopefully we can rule that out

There was that one episode of Round the Twist where he microwaved his underwear and it made him run really fast. I tried it with my shoes once and it made the microwave smell like shoes.
