Also they're generally chill. I grew up in South Florida and have encountered more than my fair share while canoeing, and outside of breeding season you can walk right up to them and give them a slap and tickle and they couldn't be fucked to give you any grief.
Edit: please understand the difference between alligators and crocodiles. Also don't slap their tail regardless if you know.
I think that might be the most Florida thing anyone has ever said.
You should have seen my friend who "hunted" them with nothing more than a knife. He's the one who teased me into actually slapping one. This fool would straight up just jump into some water and come back with a dead gator.
Not glorifying him or his actions, but Florida man got some experiences you can use.
