I don't and likely never will understand people thinking it's strange.
I love the stuff, but the entire process and industry of how it comes to be is objectively strange and fucked up.
I grew up in an Asian household, dairy wasn't really a thing. If I drink a glass of milk I'll probably shit myself. That goes for most of my family. Having a glass of milk with dinner would be a really bad idea
A glass of milk with lunch or dinner? Yeah, that's strange AF. Milk is for cereal and to put in my coffee. Nothing else. I use soy milk for both.
You'll get there. It probably makes you farty already and you haven't just connected the dots. Basically every adult human will develop more and more lactose intolerance as they age.
