Original question by @starlight@lemmy.ca

Originally, I was looking into pursuing a TEFL certificate so that I could be able to work abroad and it would put me on the path to a better life than I would have in America. However, after some research, it seems that a being a TEFL doesn't pay well and I'm really unsure if I want to teach. I was wondering if there are any other jobs/careers that allow you to work abroad besides a TEFL?

Trades are pretty mobile, you may have to recertify depending on where you go to/from. But generally the demand is solid everywhere. Depends on what kind of trade you like tbh.

Not just construction trades, therapists hairdressers etc all count

If Ukraine manages to kick Russia out I might give my last years in the trade to them. Go over there and set tile in gov't buildings, sanitary cove vinyl in operating rooms, etc. Specialized flooring and bathrooms and such. I already have the US clearances and background checks for data centers and shit. My wife and I might be able to go over there for a couple years, see the country, and help them rebuild.

I only have about 10 years left in me though, so no guarantee it's even over by then.

That's not a bad idea!
