I didn't realize he had to sit across from empty seats, that's fucking glorious

[–] WaterSword@discuss.tchncs.de 167 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Fyi: here’s the unaltered image

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 109 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

This pic is cropped so you can't see the empty lawn just passed the people by the fence they couldn't see over.

Edit - Here is newsweeks slightly less cropped version and all the empty space is clearly visible.

Edit 2 - Here is a NYT photo that really shows how few people really showed up.

He looks so pathetic standing there saluting while everybody else is seated around him.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 47 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Especially since those troops are representing the Vietnam War. You know, the know he dodged the draft for.

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh was that the moment they played 'fortunate son'?

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 7 points 2 months ago

He was born on 3rd and thinks he hit a triple.

[–] albert180@piefed.social 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

There are bootloads of Things you can blame Trump for, but dodging the draft for such an unnecessary stupid war is something everyone remotely intelligent person would have done if capable

[–] Laser@feddit.org 18 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

It's not only about that he dodged it, but the fact that he now has this stupid parade after dodging (and still not admitting that he was only able to dodge on a falsified doctor's note that he got because he comes from a rich family). Either you think the military is stupid, then dodging the draft makes sense, but the parade doesn't or the other way around. He's just doing both which is hypocritical. Not surprising though

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 10 points 2 months ago

And the icing on the cake is that while in a cemetery of vets, called them "losers" and "suckers" according to General Kelly.

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Many dodged the war out of principle but the orange joker did it because he thought those who didn't were, "Suckers and Losers".

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 7 points 2 months ago

The people I rate highest were those who openly said they weren't going for moral reasons. Muhammed Ali couldn't fight for years because he had religious reasons the government refused to acknowledge. Others went to Canada or Sweden.

Next are people like Bill Clinton. Had a valid student deferment and talked about how bad the war was.

Further down are people who used legal means, but were silent.

Lowest are people like Bush Jr. who finagled his way into the National Guard [and bailed on his last year] and Trump who lied about his medical condition. Both of these two were happy to have other people die to defend their right to be a rich kid.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Yup. Like an overly enthusiastic little boy trying to make his parents happy.

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Lmao that NYT photo, is this a federal parade or local band night at the city park?

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Local cover band even.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I’ve seen neater lines from middle school marching bands. What the actual fuck.

[–] Bristingr@lemm.ee 7 points 2 months ago

It was the Army's way of protesting this shit too.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago

Yeah they were just kinda shuffling along.

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Who's he saluting? You didn't serve donny, now sit down

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago

Like it or not, he is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Literally the highest ranking officer in the military.

[–] bathing_in_bismuth@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

What presidents post WW2 did serve?

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 7 points 2 months ago

what president post WW2 pretend they did?

[–] ClanOfTheOcho@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Pretty much every single one until Clinton.

[–] El_Scapacabra@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Maybe there's a North Korean general across the street?

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

You could be right but I thought he assumed other positions for dictators. You know, down on all fours like a dog ready to "accept" the supreme leader

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 11 points 2 months ago

I knew it was too good to be true, but it's still funny AF.

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Why did you Photoshop a massive asshole in the middle of the pic?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 84 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Zoom in for details, its funny (and photoshopped)

[–] Soulg@ani.social 50 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well now I see it, oh well I'll leave the comment up to be mocked

[–] dalekcaan@lemm.ee 15 points 2 months ago

No mockery needed, it's still very valid

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 14 points 2 months ago

Even so, he's known for waving to invisible crowds. Wasn't there footage of him doing it when leaving court last year before E-Day?

[–] slevinkelevra@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I wonder, are the empty seats photoshopped though?

[–] Substance_P@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

That was my first thought.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 55 points 2 months ago

Did you completely miss Bernie photoshopped in?
