I've seen a lot of posts on Lemmy today arguing that Greta Thunberg is privileged, self-obsessed or self-promoting, that her actions are merely symbolic and useless, etc. I have to wonder whether these are part of a coordinated campaign. I hope we can all recognize someone who cares enough to put themselves in danger for the sake of others.

It's a good opportunity to block bots, trolls, centrists and bootlickers though

I take my time to request they explain their entire "argument" until they are so frustrated with their own inaccuracies they decide to stop commenting. Just had some fun with that yesterday. Make it clear to those who come after.

So… Sealioning? That just sounds like Sealioning to me.

Almost. I'm not acting in bad faith and actually want to understand the viewpoint. This last time I was getting empty and irrelevant platidudes to my direct questions, and they didn't like me pointing that out. I've ended plenty of other conversations saying that we clearly have different opinions or values, but I understand better where they are coming from and thank them for explaining it to me.

Edit: I suppose I did sealion at least once back in high school. A girl snarkily asked me, "why are you wearing that?" And when I started to answer, she interrupted saying, "see, I don't really care." I told her that was too bad and she probably shouldn't have asked before following her until I was done with my extended history over my t-shirt.
