...do I see a Japanese and Korean flag in there? Is there something about maga cultists I don't know?

[–] Turret3857 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Not sure about Korea but Japan has a weird little MAGA cult going on. They have had little pseudo-rallies, although I dont remember the details clearly enough to say anything else on it.

I know there are enough low-info or ultra national voters in Japan to maintain a bit of a maga cult-- some people just liked him simply because he screamed about CHYNA a bunch and they don't like China. It's just weird to see it in the J6 setting. I wonder if it's any crossover with the manosphere bullshit about how all Japanese women are totally submissive and thus the ideal spouses for the ultramen living in their parents' basement.

There's this weird overlap between the Moonies, The Epoch Times, and the American Far Right. I think the Shen Yun group is also involved. They'll all hard core anti-CCP and went far, far too into Authoritarian Capitalism as a result. The Moonies were the cult that Shinzo Abe had connections to and his assassin's mother gave all the family's money to.

If it wasn't all documented, I'd think it's a nonsense conspiracy theory. But it's true. The Moonies pop up with a weird number of attachments all over the GOP.

Abe's assassin's story already sounds like a work of fiction. A young man radicalized to the alt right because of his mother giving all his college money to a cult, only to find out that the same cult has ties to the alt right groups he was aligning himself with and changing course.

The Moonies themselves don't even look like a normal conspiracy group from a Bond movie or something. They look more like some parody from Kingsman.

The Moonies own DC's second newspaper, the Washington Times, which has a strong conservative streak.

TiL that Shen Yun isn't just an innocent performing arts show

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Please elucidate. To me they are that weird Chinese outfit that comes through town every couple of years. I've never known anyone who has seen their act.

I've only seen billboards and tv advertisements and it seems kinda cool.

It's some kind of state-sponsored propaganda, but I don't know much more than that.

There was also the flag of the defunct Republic of VIetnam

The depth of anti-communist feeling in the Vietnamese community, which includes many military veterans and former government officials, meant that it has always leaned strongly Republican. While Asian Americans as a whole voted 2 to 1 for Joe Biden over Trump, Vietnamese Americans supported Trump over Biden, 57 percent to 41 percent. A deep animus toward China, amplified by misinformation in Vietnamese-language media, bolsters the support for a president they see as tougher on foreign policy. This dovetailed with their anticommunism.
