The whole point of science is that the conclusions depend on the evidence, not what the politicians want. When you do it the other way around, you get nonsense like Lysenkoism which deny you the technical advantages of having an accurate understanding of the world.

Idiocracy made the assumption that people were stupid but well intentioned.

It is truly depressing to remember the vast majority of people, in the US at least, are only about as smart as a 6th grader.
