So, a few of my friends and I (Americans) all use a UK spellings for a few words (not all the same ones each), and we've all determined that it must have something to do with interacting with Brits regularly on the Internet during the same years that we were learning to spell.

Is this a thing that any of you do or anyone you know?

A few of my friends and I do the same with a few words, especially colour. But, it's to do with the books we read as kids because internet access wasn't common yet
