(I am sure you are much farther in the story that I am), but he is mostly a self-proclaimed cool guy

I'm almost through volume 4 now, and sadly, him asking for praise is absent in the later volumes. Would have been a funny running gag. But there was a moment when he got angry and showed his claws, which was in all honesty "cool". "Wise man fear the anger of a gentle ~~man~~ cat" and all that.
