“Ours is the first age in which many thousands of the best-trained individual minds have made it a full-time business to get inside the collective public mind.” ― Marshall McLuhan, The Mechanical Bride : Folklore of Industrial Man, year 1951

I wouldn't be here if people confusing fiction with non-fiction (See Lemmy community: !FictionNonFiction@lemm.ee on topic) wasn't the very basis of society of people flocking to badness and avoiding goodness in United States of America 2024 / 2025 / etc. (Sustained since March 2013)
There is no supernatural. There is only addiction to fiction and avoidance of non-fiction. Social media has given everyone the chance to have endless fiction from all over the world and people are detached from reality, favoring 5,000 anti-reality alternate reality screen games released by the Kremlin and Cambridge Analytica since March 2013. Addressing the Bible Literacy crisis is all part of a massive need to fix a long-standing problem. Lemmy is ground zero for this crisis.
Every Lemmy community, every Reddit subreddit, every narrow perspective is a filter-bubble, information sovereignty egoism / egomania training camp.
“If all information is seen as part of a war, out go any dreams of a global information space where ideas flow freely, bolstering deliberative democracy. Instead, the best future one can hope for is an ‘information peace’, in which each side respects the other’s ‘information sovereignty’: a favoured concept of both Beijing and Moscow, and essentially a cover for enforcing censorship.” ― Peter Pomerantsev, This Is Not Propaganda: Adventures in the War Against Reality, 2019

“As the Nazi emphasis on nonintellectual virtues (patriotism, loyalty, duty, purity, labor, simplicity, “blood,” “folk-ishness”) seeped through Germany, elevating the self-esteem of the “little man,” the academic profession was pushed from the very center to the very periphery of society. Germany was preparing to cut its own head off. By 1933 at least five of my ten friends (and I think six or seven) looked upon “intellectuals” as unreliable and, among these unreliables, upon the academics as the most insidiously situated.” ― Milton Sanford Mayer, They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45, published 1955
Thanks bro, great illustration of my point.
You are welcome. I love you. Glad to see you use Lemmy to spread love and say "thank you", brother in love. Pale Blue Dot brother.

“Hitlerism was a mass flight to dogma, to the barbaric dogma that had not been expelled with the Romans, the dogma of the tribe, the dogma that gave every man importance only in so far as the tribe was important and he was a member of the tribe.” ― Milton Sanford Mayer, They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45, published 1955
