Grifters gonna grift.
He started really young, apparently he also sold some of his dad's emeralds while on holiday in New York as a teenager.
He's told multiple origin stories and the details vary depending on which pieces of the truth are convenient enough to fill in the blanks around the lies.
Yeah a lot of lies, but I think the emerald story is one his dad told to South African news outlets when Elon tried to pull the "I was so poor I left South Africa with no money" story.
Oh Musk himself did tell it, too.
