Thafuq is a "Spapnie"? ๐Ÿคข

[โ€“] KickMeElmo@sopuli.xyz 26 points 3 months ago (16 children)

I think it's Sparnie, there's a leg on that second P. Looking it up, seems Sparnies is a "Sarnie" shop, which I guess is a British term for a sandwich?

[โ€“] serfraser@sopuli.xyz 14 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Sarnie is indeed slang for a butty

[โ€“] egrets@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (3 children)

(For those not from the UK, "butty" is another word for a piece.)

[โ€“] billwashere@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Piece of ..? Bread? Cake? Ass?

[โ€“] Korval@lemmy.today 10 points 3 months ago (2 children)

They didn't say "a piece of," just "a piece." Since we're talking about slang and since "a piece" is slang for "a gun," we're forced to conclude that the advertisement is for a gun shop.

[โ€“] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

But guns are biceps, so clearly it's a gym / fitness studio.

Oh, true. And it being a gym also supports the "ass" angle.

[โ€“] billwashere@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I like โ€œbuttyโ€ being slang for a piece of ass better.

[โ€“] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

Because "fanny" is vagina over there?

[โ€“] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 4 points 3 months ago (2 children)

(For those not from the UK, "piece" is another word for a filled breadcake.)

[โ€“] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

Clarifies a certain schoolyard nickname, apparently.

What's a breadcake? Is it bread or cake? You have to pick one...

Is this why British food sucks?

[โ€“] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

we call it a barm round these parts

[โ€“] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

But this says sparnies, not sarnies. And does it include chips?

[โ€“] serfraser@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Looks like Sparnies is the shop name (it's based in a place called Leamington Spa). No sign of chips sadly.
