We have external roller shutters. They let in 0 light when fully closed.
This is the way. No they are not trendy, but for keeping light out and keeping heat out in summer they can’t be beat.
Things are ugly as shit!!! They're a great security feature too. Considering how flimsy our windows are, I'm glad to have them.

They came with the house when we bought it. The north side of the house has several windows (including our bedroom) and has parklands behind, so it gets windy.
If we didn't have the shutters, windows would have blown in already 😁
I like these, dont think the mrs is a huge fan though. and I'm tipping it might be a bit more expensive than tinting.
