It probably is stressful, but there is a good chance it's cathartic instead. Dog gets to act on his pray drive, not only without consequence, but also with many rewards for doing so. I didn't read the article, but that could be why he's so elusive. Dog's having the time of his life

I don't think dogs really work that way.

Like ok if your at the park for 10 minutes your dog might not want to come to you because it's having the time of its life, but after hours or days most pets will want the comfort of being near humans.
