Personal for me since my daughter in law is from there. She's trying to reach out but a) infrastructure damage and b) everyone else is trying too.

6.4 aftershock 12 minutes later.

Map for those unfamiliar. Epicenter was NW of Sagaing, close to Mandalay, pretty much dead center of the country.

Buildings completely collapsed as far away as Bangkok.

See dots on map.

Update from my daughter in law:

"I just spoke with my mom. Fortunately, my family is safe, but there are some damages to our house (Yangon) and my dad’s office (Naypyidaw).

I’ve heard that it is worse in Bangkok. My second brother is currently visiting there, and my family is trying to reach him."

Photos from Naypyidaw:

News is reporting that it's worse in Bangkok because Thailand technically doesn't get earthquakes on its own and so their buildings aren't constructed with that in mind. ☹️

Glad to hear your daughter-in-law and her mom are safe. Fingers crossed that the brother is as well.

Yeah, because of the time difference, it may be a while before we know. I'm seeing reports of 140+ dead in Myanmar but no estimates from Thailand yet.
