I want a roomba, but am nervous about the cat having an accident somewhere and it being smeared across the house.

We never had any issues on that front - we have an old as balls 880 series. It has on occasion found vomit...and eaten it. We only found out when wondering why the hell the roomba smelled like that.

Since the poop smearing vids went viral the newer models actually have detectors for that sort of thing. They've been promising their fecal painting days are over since '21
