If they really respect Canadians and appreciate the danger of conservative populism in this political climate, they should come to some agreement between the four parties to pull some candidates that are less likely to win from ridings where the conservatives are challenging them due to vote splitting.
I'm not going to hold my breath, I think the Liberals will be as selfish and entitled as usual since they see their support so high that they don't feel like they have to make any compromise and insist on running a full ticket, which basically forces the other parties to do so as well for their own survival.
It's the not electoral reform we actually want. Still, it would be a nice gesture and a step towards getting them to once again admit that FPTP is a horribly broken voting system that needs to change.
Strategic withdrawals won't fix the fundamental problem - our broken electoral system. The real issue isn't parties competing (that's what democracy is about), it's that FPTP mathematically guarantees wasted votes.
You're right about the Liberals - their track record on electoral reform is clear. When Trudeau promised 2015 would be "the last election under FPTP," he actually wanted IRV (another winner-take-all system), not proportional representation.
What we need isn't parties gaming a broken system but actual electoral reform where every vote counts. Currently, millions of perfectly valid ballots have zero effect on representation.
Only Green🟢/NDP🟧 consistently support proportional representation. While Liberals and Conservatives benefit from keeping the system broken, Canadians lose every single time.
