I am trying to move away from US tech for ages actually and last year i transitioned from Google photos to ente. I am very happy with them but now i was checking if they are based in US.

I can't seem to figure it out. They have their corporate postal addresses in US, but also addresses in Netherlands and Finland. Also it seems that they are based thought the world and do remote work so I ma at a dilemma between accepting them as they are or having to find an alternative to them

Edit: update from Ente, and a blog post they made when they registered in the US. TLDR: they actually wanted to register in EU, but as they are fully remotely operated, EU was not able to allow for a company without a physical presence to register in any of its countries (besides Estonia). There were workarounds and hacks, to achieve this but they were not willing to use "hacks". It was more straight forward creating a Delaware C corporation instead. This is not what this sub is about. I feel like some people abuse this sub to advertise FOSS projects. It's about buying European.

Ente is not European. Period.

I think that's completely fair. Ente is not European.

I will say, that makes this community far less useful for me but I guess that's a community choice. The most valuable thing for me in product choices is a list of options with high quality reviews and a list of meaningful and well sourced traits. Being European made is one of those traits, but it's not the end all or be all. If there was a trillion dollar Amazon equivalent in Europe it would still be an evil company.

But you're right, that's a philosophical point about the community that is not the stated purpose - a far simpler and (I would argue) far less useful binary check. Don't know what I'll do with that information except unsubscribe I guess? Idk if that's a good action on my part. ๐Ÿค”

Is there value in following a news feed full of things that may or may not be good but do for sure have a trait that is meaningful but not paramount? Feels like the hit rate on useful suggestions or discussions would be rather slim.

My personal motivation is to stop buying US products and services. BuyEU is a tool for this
