Fediverse vs Disinformation

1532 readers
280 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

But I have to have so many alts because of things happening like this very thread. People calling me out for banning.

Is that you openly admitting to ban evasion, as in creating multiple accounts so that admins have to put in more work banning you? @kersploosh@sh.itjust.works I think you might want to take that into consideration of your judgement of this person, since they are clearly being banned a lot and are deciding to circumvent those bans openly. Probably better to just ban all of them, impersonation or not. Since they already admit they're using the other accounts to evade bans.
