Explanation: In WW1, France and Britain promised the Arabs support for an independent Arab state if only they would revolt against the Ottoman Empire, whom France and Britain were fighting at the time. Of course, after the war was won, France and Britain rolled out a long list of reasons why they TOTALLY couldn't deliver on their promise, and split the Middle East between themselves as suited their interests.
