Fediverse vs Disinformation

1530 readers
1 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Thank you Snopes. I’m so tired of explaining the difference between a picture and a video.

Unfortunately, this whole thing worked exactly as intended. The overwhelming majority of US citizens were discussing if Musk was a Nazi while Trump signed a massive list of executive orders under the cover of media noise.

I don't get what you mean. The executive orders are very much in the news. I've seen it on every major news station. Not like it really matters because trumpers are going to trump and many others don't care either way.
