Gibson, derived from ol' english Gilbert, meaning bright pledge or shining hostage. Somehow I don't believe Gibson is the hostage in this situation.

often the meanings of names are themselves archaic

in modern usage I would say gibson would mean holy promise, prayer, a dedication, a holy act of kindness
